Fall Picnic:

-          Judy is spearheading the Fall Picnic.  Will White will be the LPENA board contact to assist Judy with organizing the picnic.

-          Activity Ideas:

o   Organizing food donations from Albertsons

o   Coordinate prizes for costume contests

o   Enlist someone to run costume contest (Judy?)

o   Hay Ride on Robert’s Trailer

o   Bobbing for Apples

o   Grill’s

o   Bounce House – Kathy Renaud already arranging this

o   Flyer week prior to Picnic

o   E-mail reminder to neighborhood and remind to bring pot-luck items

o   Invite VIP’s

Crime:

-          National Night Out recap –

o   Sheffie Kadane and Police Officer attended, a good turn out overall. 

o   Mark Hoesterey wants to setup a meeting of all trained VIP’s to get started and coordinated

-          Leader

o   General lack of initiative for someone to take ownership of Crime Watch program, looking for someone willing to be active and available to run the program.

o   Aren and Mark will review list of possible volunteers who may want to take a more active role

-          VIP

o   Recommend to find a source for magnetic signs and remaining items needed for VIP patrols

o   Research what the sign needs to have on it for vehicles

o   Suggest setting up a Google online calendar and email listing to coordinate patrols

-          Cameras

o   Planning

o   Suggest investing some of LPENA funds for 2-3 higher end cameras for quality low-light conditions

 

Movie Night Recap:

-          Positive feedback all around. 

-          Suggest to have these on a more regular basis.

-          Next movie night tentatively scheduled for November 15th.

October Newsletter Recap

-          Nancy said for Lucy to enjoy her time off from doing the newsletter….. 

 

Beautification

-          Aren Cambre will engage key people on some accent trees in Galway Circle

-          Aren will contact Ann Allen to take a look at the leaning Pecan in Galway Circle and offer suggestions on health of tree.

-          Waterford Circle:

o   Ann Allen looking for guidance on when to do the landscaping

o   Suggest to wait until mid-late January to redo the circle

o   One weekend to strip it

o   Following weekend to plant and mulch

 

Christmas Lights Contest

-          Ann Allen agreed to run the judging and coordination

-          Karen Pape will mentor her on getting it going

 

Nominations Committee

- Reminder that committee needs to be ready in Spring for new LPENA board

- Aren requests that we make an active attempt at finding a new president

 

Treasurer

-          Gary McDonnell could not attend.

-          Very close to 50% membership

-          Still have over $8,000.00

-          Lover’s Pizza – working with their accountants to cut LPENA a check based on 15% of sales to LPENA residents

 

Other

-          Discussion over final paint scheme for Casa Linda shopping center

-          Garland/Buckner – construction in progress, they appear to be following our design recommendations.  They have provided us a picture of the pavestones that are going in on the sidewalks to review and the streetlight poles are the agreed upon colors.

-          Traffic Counts – Aren will contact city to get traffic counts done again.

-          If cut through traffic does not abate after construction ends, it is suggested to lobby for road humps along Galway Drive between Peavy and Athlone.

-          Dixon Branch – Group called “Protect Home Values” is lobbying against Dixon Branch updates.   They are lobbying for a pump station and underground pipes for diversion.

-          White Rock Lake Task Force Meeting Update

o   Spillway Update – Contractor just got notice to proceed, 15-17 months worth of construction.  Lake may be lowered by 30 inches during repairs.  Plans available at http://www.dallasparks.org  or http://www.dallascityhall.com

o   Northwest Highway Bridge through area where creeks flood out.  26 month project.  33.5million dollar contract.  Starts January 2009 (tentatively).

o   21st of October – Meeting at Hexter Elementary for the Northwest Highway bridge project

o   For the Love of the Lake – Creating Arbor at the fish hatchery entryway and minor landscaping

o   Nothing on East side of lake is getting funded. 

o   Conservancy is focused on safety (camera surveillance) and Dreyfus Club replacement (architect has been selected).

o   Mark brought up at task force meeting of access to lake from Poppy drive side.  LPENA has taken an official position on lack of safe access to lake from Buckner.

§  Suggest contacting Doctor’s Hospital administrative staff to urge them to help with the issue, along with the apartment complex management, Sheffie, and others to spur this along
